Calcium is the necessary nutrient to form bones and teeth. It iodizes and functions in various ways to sustain life.
In nature, calcium is found in abundance in the form of calcium carbonate (limestones).
It is also the most abundant mineral in the human body, and accounts for 1-2% of its weight. 99% of the body's calcium is stored in the bones and teeth, and the rest reside in the blood and extracellular fluid to help blood coagulation, heart function, and muscle contraction to name a few. It plays a very important role in the human body.
However, as seen in the results of national health and nutrition surveys,Japanese people do not take in as much calcium as recommended by the national health authorities. Therefore it is important to take in calcium in a proactive way.
Calcium used in food items are mainly used for nutritional enrichment. Among them, calcium carbonate is the most commonly used material, as its calcium percentage is high (40%) and it has little impact on the food’s taste and flavor, as it is insoluble. It is derived from natural limestone, and due to its safety, it is used in baby formula as well as medicinal use.
"Collo-Calso-EX" has a wide range of usage including the calcium enrichment as well as texture improvement, fluidity improvement, pH adjustment, and leavening agent to name a few, used in instant noodles, confectionery, gum base, beverages, etc.
"Collo-Calso-MG" is a calcium carbonate formulation for SURIMI seafood, and contributes to the jelly strength, the water retentivitiy, and the whitening of Japanese processed seafood products such as kamaboko, chikuwa, and Satsuma age.
"Cal-Essen" is a slurry-type calcium carbonate formulation. Finely pulverized calcium carbonate grains makes it easy to enrich calcium of fluid foods such as milk beverage
At Fujikawa Plant, we focus most of our attention to the safety and the reassurance of food. As the nation’s first plant dedicated to the manufacturing of food additive precipitated calcium carbonate, we engage in thorough quality control. In order to incorporate a non-participant evaluation, we acquired a GMP for food additives.
In addition, we are working on our powder products to be embraced worldwide; we acquired the Halal certificate in 2011, followed by the Kosher certificate in 2012.
At the foot of Mt. Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan, we aim to reach the pinnacle of the calcium carbonate industry – to become a manufacturer of distinctive presence.
* Food additive GMP certified by Japan Food Additives Association (JAFA), refers to the voluntary standards of food additive manufacturing and quality controls. (GMP = Good Manufacturing Practice)
